Fires Continue & European Reaction
The local coverage at the start of this segment shows the continuing fire at the Pentagon 11 hours after the attack on the nations largest office building.
Ted Koppel gives the perspective of how Europe is reacting to 9/11 from ABCs London bureau. Ted gives numerous examples of newspaper headlines in Europe from the days events. This was a day once people found out you were an American that they turned to you and offered anything they could do to help. One interesting point Ted Koppel brings up is that the Iranian President at the time made comments about his shock and outrage of the attacks on 9/11. Another interesting point brought up was the inability to actually reach individuals by phone on 9/11 in New York City from overseas was difficult.
About 40 minutes into the segment, Pierre Thomas discusses the FBI actions that are beginning to take place as a result of the passenger manifests from the flights that were crashed on 9/11.
